Shoe Stretching Solutions

Have you ever had a pair of shoes that became too tight, or, purchased shoes which you fell in love with, they fit fine at the store but a day or so later were too snug for your feet.   Here’s a few tips on how to stretch shoes.

1)  First and foremost try to purchase your shoes in the afternoon when you’re feet are most swollen as you had a chance to be on your feet most of the day.

an economical method to strech shoes

2) The most economical method to stretch shoes is to purchase a stretching solution like Tana Universal Shoe Stretch .   This works best with leather, suede and nubuck.  You spray the inside of the shoe directly to the tight area.  Wear the shoe a couple of hours to allow development of the contour area.  Tana Universal Shoe Stretch Spray can be purchased at Pearl Street Fine, contact us for delivery.  You can also use the shoe stretch  on the calf portion of boots and gloves which became tight.

3) Local shoe repair shops can expand the length up to half a size, width up to one size and can also expand the instep part of shoe.  They can also expand specific points of the shoe to provide extra room for special issues such as bunions.

4) You can purchase similar hand operated shoe stretchers that the shoe repair shops.  They’re usually made of wood and come in various sizes.

5) Caution:  I heard stuffing damp newspapers inside shoes overnight.  My concern is the print might come off inside your shoes and you might end up with inky feet.  If you try this method please make sure you wipe the inside the of the shoe before wearing

2)  Another caution: I also heard stuffing your shoes with a resealable plastig bag full of water, putting it in the freezer. The shoe expands when the water turns to ice.  Please do not try with expensive shoes.

Whichever method you use, make sure that you treat your shoes with shoe conditoner to restore moisture and wear the shoes soon after they’ve been stretched.

What’s New In Shoes This Spring 2012

Wear Comfort With This Coral Everybody Sandal

Last August while everyone was soaking up the last bit of summer, knowing full well fallwas sneaking around the corner, I was diligently selecting next spring/summer selections for the store.  Customers began purchasing fall and winter shoes and boots, Christmas came and went, which takes us to February 2012.

Customers were still buying boots, wearing their coats, hats, gloves and scarves and I was still in my winter mode.  I notice the UPS truck pull up in front of the store.  The driver pulls out a few cartons, could this be my spring selections starting to arrive?  The anticipation increased as he broungt the cartons in the store.  I sign for the delivery, take out the packing slip and see that it’s the sandals from Steve Madden.  Still a bit surprised, I started opening the cartons and the excitement started mounting, just like Christmas all over again.  I took out the first shoe box and low and behold, my first summer sandal.  How Exciting!

Within that week I received more and more cartons and opened them with the same anticipation.

Toronto Shoe Show, Every Woman’s Dream

Ivanka Trump Shoes now available at Pearl Street Fine Shoes in Burlington

The 2012 Toronto Shoe Show is on this weekend and the excitement is mounting!   I remember the first show I attended in August 2009.  I imagined rows upon rows of wholesalers, excited about exhibiting their new spring/summer fashions; while retailers study, scrutinize and analyse which collection they’ll bring in their store.  I eagerly walked in through the first set of doors, waited in line to register, my excitement was building and then after much awaited anticipation, I entered the next set of doors.  This lead us inside a bustling scene, 10 fold what I imagined!  I soon realized that beside this area there were more boardrooms, and suites in the Hotel adjacent to the Centre, all filled with more exhibitors.  Wow, where do I start?  Fortunately I was already working with a couple of wholesalers (Patrick a distributor for Everybody and France Mode, and Cyrelle with Amalfi and Prevata) who advised me not to get overwhelmed, and to ensure that prior to attending the show, I had an idea what kind and how many shoes I needed to bring in the store for the spring/summer and most importantly to stay focused.  I had researched suppliers I wanted to visit and highlighted them on the map, I thought I had everything planned out and under control.  Well, that all seemed to go by the wayside once I entered the second set of doors.   Can you imagine 3 football fields of shoes?  Luckily Gloria who manages the store for me kept me on track.  I kept reminding myself the words of wisdom given to me by my mentors, looked at my map and headed towards the exhibitors.

I reached my first dealer, The Indeka Group.  Their brands include Born, Marc Fisher, Guess, Santana, Ivanka Trump, Sofft and BOC.  I began to look around and now I was the one studying, scrutinizing and analyzing the hundreds of shoes, wondering which shoe will be the hot item 8 months from now. Which shoes are going to be the best sellers, the talk of the town, the ones who will have customers tell two friends, who will tell two friends, and so on and so on.  I completed my first order, whew, on to the next.  8 hours, 7 suppliers, 20 brands and 300 shoes later, I completed my mission.   I was so excited for spring and summer to come around, never wishing time away of course, but this experience left me with a great sense of accomplishment, excitement and anticipation.

Then the doubt sets in, did I choose the right ones?  Stay tuned.
